With more than 50 unique public facing web properties managed, hosted and distributed across the world, Arch Chemicals found it difficult to communicate a consistent message and brand. In an effort to improve communications and reduce support costs, Arch Chemicals desired to centralize management and support of the distributed web properties into a unified technical and application architecture. The vision was to create a Federation of centrally managed web sites with a flexible model allowing individual sites to contain distinct presentation layer assets for branding and business segment-specific purposes.

The solution provided to Arch Chemicals by Ironworks not only included an effective and efficient technical solution to meet the challenges of the initiative, but also the definition, planning and coordination of an effective project life-cycle to effectively migrate the web properties to the solution.

The technical solution implemented a combination of existing technologies purchased by Arch such as SilkRoad Eprise, HAHT, and various Microsoft technologies with integration between the technologies being loosely coupled so that one component could be removed with minimal impact to the other components. This provided a framework that could change and grow as the needs of the organization required.

Within six months Arch was able to move from their initial vision to focusing on the consolidation of each web property into the Federation architecture. Within one year they were able to re-design and implement over 12 web properties into the framework.
