The United Way is planning a strategic shift to take advantage of their position as one of the largest and most respected community-based organizations in the area. Their plan is to transform their organization from being merely a fundraiser or funds provider into a leader providing solutions for urgent human services problems in Central Virginia. As part of this effort, Ironworks was engaged as a long-term strategic partner to assess and help realign the organization's operational processes and technological capacity with the new strategic direction.
Over two years, Ironworks delivered the following:
- Workflow analysis
- Process realignment to enterprise software implementation
- Infrastructure analysis and upgrades
- Enterprise information management system
- Content management planning
- Interactive website development
- Intranet and extranet development
These new business and technology changes will enable United Way employees to work smarter and deliver more to donors, partners and the community at large. The organization is poised to take advantage of the latest business and IT solutions in the same way that many for-profit businesses do.
The United Way will soon be able to take a more integrated approach to product development and donor satisfaction by utilizing an enterprise-wide information management system, and coordinating online and offline marketing and communications tactics. With the help of Ironworks, they are creating a new content management plan to manage ongoing contact with donors through technology and other means. Based on our recommendations they are planning to develop a secure Extranet, which will allow employees and donors to access real-time information and important community updates online. Resulting benefits include:
- Improved communications to all United Way constituents
- Shorter turnaround time for donations and funds distributions
- More effective ways to keep donors informed about the results their donations are producing
