The Challenge

Alstom Power wanted to develop an online resource to combine corporate operational knowledge, streamline communication and facilitate collaboration and decision making for their U.S. and Canadian management.
 

The Solution

Ironworks partnered with Alstom Power to develop a secure knowledge management and collaboration solution called LINC, Leadership Information Community. The browser-based system allows managers to easily locate, discuss and approve information required to make decisions that drive Alstom’s business. The capabilities inherent to the solution enhance operational efficiency and reduce latency in making key business decisions.

Before building this new management-level application, Ironworks worked with Alstom to identify the vision, requirements and information architecture of the Information Community.  Additionally, the combined company teams created an implementation plan and strategy “Roadmap” to match the company’s short and long-term goals.  Deliverables of this effort included the following:

  • Document management model

  • Change management and rollout plans

The Results

With the Information Community, executives are now able to achieve a proactive approach to management and continuously leverage mission critical information through quick access to real-time business data.  This level of access allows them to rapidly respond to business problems as well as potential opportunities.  Alstom Power is also continually realizing savings through decreases in the hours that employees spend on information retrieval and collaboration efforts. Collaborating on information located within one central location has led to improvements in general knowledge-sharing among resources in various locations. In addition, it ensures that all managers are in alignment with Alstom Power’s overall business goals. The Information Community was built with a flexible and scalable architecture to support expanded uses for the system over time.
